Komaba Agora Theater
Winter Summit 2007 2008.1.31 thu.-3.2 sun. Sometimes I feel there is a belief that it is better to be indifferent to the history of the theatre, in order to create powerful contemporary theatre. But on second thoughts this seems odd, as the present is purely the most advanced moment of history. I have a hunch, just a hunch though, that it will not be long before this era, in which such indifference works well to achieve a sense of "now", disintegrates. So I have come to believe that it is fine to learn from history. Of course it will mean nothing unless the thus acquired sense of now is really, truly raw and fresh. Toshiki Okada, festival director
